"Xiqiao Layers of Green" - A Thousand-Year Quarry and a Hundred-Million-Year Volcano — The Hometown of Wong Fei-hung You Shouldn’t Miss
Hello everyone. When it comes to Foshan martial arts, many people think of the legendary “Shadowless Kick,” closely associated with Wong Fei-hung—one of the most iconic figures in Foshan.
His hometown lies at the foot of Xiqiao Mountain, a destination formed by volcanic eruptions around 100 million years ago. In this feature, we introduce the Mission Day route [Xiqiao Layers of Green].
The mountain features 72 peaks, dramatic cliffs, and unique volcanic formations, combining natural beauty with deep cultural and martial arts heritage.
Among its highlights is the Shiyan Rock ancient quarry, in use for over 2,000 years. Flooded during the Qing Dynasty, it preserved tools, stone blocks, and work traces underwater—making it one of China’s best-preserved quarry sites.

Xiqiao Mountain was also a major cultural center in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Kang Youwei once studied here, contributing to its reputation as a cradle of reformist thought.
At the summit stands the world’s tallest seated Guanyin statue (61.9m), with a grand hall inside displaying Buddhist art. At the southern entrance, the Nanhai Museum offers further insight into the region’s history.
Nearby, the Wong Fei-hung Lion Dance & Martial Arts Museum presents his life story, traditional lion dance culture, and daily live performances.
For this [Xiqiao Layers of Green] Mission Day route, we have linked these landmarks into a continuous 14 km journey across the entire mountain—from the museum, through Tingyin Lake, up the west entrance, past temples and Tianhu Park, to the Guanyin statue, then onward to the ancient quarry and ending at the Nanhai Museum.
This is likely the longest and most ambitious route in the Foshan Mission Day series. Naturally, the preparation team conducted a full test walk.
Starting from Chancheng, we drove 45 minutes to Tingyin Lake. After a short walk around the area, we realized we had already missed the last shuttle up the mountain.
After carefully assessing the difficulty and feasibility of the route, we have decided:
to cancel the entire Xiqiao Mountain mission route.
Happy April Fools’.
